Extra Large-Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone with Three Distinct Voicing Selections, Selectable Polar Patterns, and Harmonic Sound Shaping.
The Eden is the pinnacle of Lauten Audio’s microphone designs -- three distinct tube microphones packed into a single, hand-finished brass enclosure and with nickel-plated crown. This custom-crafted work of art is equipped with Lauten Audio’s exclusive 38mm capsule, Harmonic Sound Shaping, and Multi-voicing® circuitry for an unparalleled breadth of sound that makes picking the perfect microphone as easy as flipping a switch. From smoky and warm to modern and open, the Eden offers a vast expanse of sonic possibilities unlike any other microphone.
Three separate signal paths are readily available for effortless sound shaping at the flip of a switch. The Gentle selection is dark and sultry with a warm vintage feel, ideal for taming bright or abrasive sound sources. The Neutral selection is smooth and earthy with a natural balancing of sibilant sounds, and the Forward selection is Bold, present and modern, but never harsh.
This three-position filter section dynamically interacts with the Eden’s Multi-voicing circuitry, resulting in a small to significant impact on the overall feel and harmonic content of each Multi-voicing selection. The Hard (bottom) setting shifts the timbre of the microphone towards the mid-range, adding focus, accentuation and articulation to a sound and is ideal for use with the Forward selection for modern pop and R&B vocals. The Soft (middle) setting gently reduces murkiness and any overbearing low frequencies, while also adding clarity and focus to the upper end harmonics of a sound. This is powerful when used with the Gentle selection to attain a truly vintage microphone experience. Set to Off (top), the full frequency spectrum of a sound is passed directly to the Multi-voicing circuitry for maximum density and harmonic saturation.
The capsule of a microphone captures music’s most meaningful moments and converts them into electricity with relentlessly unforgiving results. Lauten's precision-crafted 38mm capsule is one of the largest in the world -- a one of a kind super-transducer designed in Silicon Valley and tuned by hand to capture the spirit, soul and wonder of a performance with unprecedented authenticity and realism.
Polar patterns have a significant impact on the sound of a microphone because each selection determines what the microphone hears. A Cardioid selection will focus all of the microphone’s attention directly to where it is pointed. This is the most commonly used polar pattern for sound sources such as vocals. Figure-8 and Omnidirectional selections allow the sound of a room or other off-axis instrumentation to be captured in a more open, natural or authentic way. These patterns are extremely useful when recording acoustic sound sources like guitar, piano, or drums.
In addition to the warmth and colour derived from an NOS EF806 tube, the Eden is also equipped with a custom wound, US-made output transformer that puts the finishing touches on every sound that passes through its copper windings. The result is an elegant, flexible, and mix-ready sound that rivals history’s most coveted tube microphones.
After being hand-polished, the Eden’s solid brass enclosure is hand finished with a durable, non-toxic ceramic coating and baked in an oven for curing. It is then fitted with a nickel plated crown and suspension mount before final assembly, burn-in, and testing.
